Privacy Notice
Jambot is your WhatsApp companion for Jamboree 2026. This notice explains what we collect, why we collect it, and the rights you have under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
1. Who we are
Jambot is operated by the Jamboree 2026 team, powered by the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation. We act as the responsible party for the personal information you share with us through WhatsApp.
2. What we collect
- WhatsApp identifier: your mobile number, used to message you and tie your replies together.
- Profile details you give us: first name, last name, organisation, venture name (all optional except first and last name).
- Your character choice: the persona you pick (Mandela, Trevor, Bonang, etc.) — and any custom character name or speaking style you create.
- Consent records: whether you accepted this notice, whether you opted in to post-event marketing, the consent version, and the timestamp.
- Conversation history: the messages you exchange with Jambot, used to keep context across the event.
3. Why we collect it
- To set up your in-event guide and reply to you in WhatsApp.
- To remind you about sessions, locations, and key event moments.
- To connect you with the right people during Jamboree 2026.
- To improve Jambot's helpfulness using anonymised, aggregated insights.
- If — and only if — you opt in, to send you post-event updates, recap content, and future opportunities from the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation.
4. Who we share it with
We share the minimum needed to run Jambot. That includes WhatsApp (Meta) for message delivery, our backend hosting providers, and the AI model providers powering the characters. We do not sell your personal information.
5. How long we keep it
We retain your profile and conversation history for the duration of Jamboree 2026 and up to 12 months after the event for support and reporting. If you reply STOP at any point, we delete your profile and conversation history within 30 days, keeping only a minimal consent log required by POPIA.
6. Your rights
Under POPIA you have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct anything that is wrong or out of date.
- Withdraw your consent and have your data deleted (reply STOP in WhatsApp).
- Object to direct marketing at any time.
- Lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za.
7. Security
Conversations travel over WhatsApp's end-to-end encrypted channel. On our side, data is stored in access-controlled databases with row-level security and encrypted at rest.
